Plymouth Street Playground to be Redeveloped

[MANSFIELD, MA, September 21, 2021] The Town of Mansfield has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to support its efforts to redevelop the Plymouth Street Playground. The PARC Program was established by the State of Massachusetts to assist cities and towns in the Commonwealth in acquiring and developing land for parks and outdoor recreation purposes. These grants can be used by municipalities to acquire parkland, build a new park, or to renovate an existing park.

The Town received its award on Tuesday morning at a ceremony in Lowell where the State announced the FY2022 grant recipients. Mansfield Select Board Chairperson Neil Rhein stated, “The Town of Mansfield is honored to be chosen in this year’s grant round for the redevelopment of the Plymouth Street Playground. Due to this grant, we can make this project a reality and the residents of Mansfield and other visitors will be able to enjoy this new playground for decades to come”. Town Manager Kevin Dumas said, “I am very pleased that the State agreed that our project was worthwhile and selected us for this grant round. I look forward to breaking ground on the playground construction in the spring of 2022 and its completion in the summer. We thank the Baker/Polito administration for their continued support of Mansfield and its projects.

Last June, Annual Town Meeting appropriated $600,000 toward the project while the Town applied for an additional $100,000 from the PARC Grant Program in order to make this project a reality. The Town of Mansfield looks forward to the final product being delivered to the community in the summer of 2022.
