MANSFIELD — State Housing and Economic Development Secretary Jay Ash praised bipartisan efforts to grow the economy and said Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration wants to spread the benefits of a growing biotech community beyond Boston.
Ash, speaking before a meeting of local business leaders Thursday at the Holiday Inn, said technology companies along with other industries have helped promote unprecedented growth in Boston and Cambridge. But as prime sites become less available in the Hub and surrounding communties like Cambridge and Somerville, companies are beginning to move out into the less-dense, lower-rent suburbs.
“Boston’s great but I’m afraid to stop anywhere for fear someone will build a 10-story building on top of me,” Ash said.
