The Health Department regulates, permits and inspects several aspects of businesses in the Town of Mansfield. The most common is related to food establishments regarding federal, state and local regulations including fat, oil and grease and waste reduction bylaws. The Health Department also oversees tobacco control, body art establishments, hotels, semi-public and public pools, tanning facilities, and septic systems. Since February 2020, I have worked closely with retail businesses, day care facilities, and industries on COVID safety regulations and other pandemic related requirements. As the Health Director, I work directly with the Board of Health on local Board of Health Regulations. My role includes enforcement of: state sanitary codes regarding housing, recreational day camps, campgrounds, and lead poisoning; local regulations on public health; and Massachusetts General Laws including the Public Health Nuisance law. Public health education programs include COVID safety, household hazardous waste reduction and disposal, mosquito and tick borne illness, PFAS and emergency preparedness.
